Omni Hotels & Resorts for Washington Post Brand Studio
As Signal Custom Content, I worked with Washington Post Brand Studio and Omni Hotels & Resorts to create stories highlighting unique aspects of three Omni properties. Signal's role consisted of helping to develop the concepts and themes, hiring the writers and photographers and coordinating their visits to the properties, editing the copy, and selecting photos.
Guiding a team of editors, copy editors, and photo researchers, as well as more than 100 writers around the world, I oversaw the creation of more than 600 guides to ports and other destinations in my role as AFAR's Branded Content Advisor. This ongoing program was recognized by Travel Weekly with a Magellan Award.
I helped develop AFAR Journeys, which launched as a partnership with Switzerland Tourism in 2014. The Journeys itineraries allow tourism boards to introduce the best of their destinations to readers and make them easier for travelers to navigate. The program has included ten partners since it launched, with three more currently in the works. With its remarkable ability to engage readers, Journeys has attracted not just tourism boards but also cruise lines and an airline. I have written most of the Journeys, working with tourism boards and the AFAR Travel Advisory Council, while editing others. I have also led the photo research and selection.
Working with project managers at AFAR and with AFAR's partners, I developed themes for digital guides and Wayfarer posts and created the final products, either commissioning or writing copy that achieved the clients' goals. For many guides, I also researched and sourced images.
